All-New Nissan Micra EV Earns Five-Star Green NCAP Sustainability Rating
The all-new, fully electric Nissan Micra has been awarded five stars by Green NCAP, the highest Sustainability Rating the independent assessment programme gives. If you’re thinking about going electric, it’s a result worth knowing about, and you can see the Micra for yourself at Barton Townley in Barrow-in-Furness.
What is Green NCAP?
Green NCAP tests how environmentally friendly a car really is. It looks beyond what comes out of the exhaust. Its assessment also considers a car’s whole life cycle, from how it’s made, through the years it’s driven, to how it’s dealt with at the end of its life. The scores are independent, so they’re a useful way to compare cars fairly.
How did the Micra score?
The Micra took the full five stars, with an overall score of 94%. The results behind that rating were:
- Clean Air: 9.1 out of 10
- Energy Efficiency: 9.3 out of 10
- Greenhouse Gases: 10 out of 10
- Cold weather performance: rated “Good”
The cold weather result matters for anyone driving in Cumbria. Winter temperatures can reduce an electric car’s efficiency, so a good rating there is reassuring.
Small on the outside, efficient on the road
The Micra is under four metres long and less than 1.8 metres wide. That makes it easy to park and manoeuvre, whether you’re in Barrow town centre, on a narrow village lane or on the school run. It also has two battery options, so you can choose what suits your driving:
| 40kWh | 52kWh | |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum WLTP range | Up to 196 miles | Up to 257 miles |
| Maximum DC charging | Up to 80kW | Up to 100kW |
Nissan quotes efficiency of up to 4.38 miles per kWh. Regenerative braking and Nissan’s e-Pedal system also help. E-Pedal lets you speed up and slow down using mostly one pedal, which many drivers find relaxing in town traffic.
Designed in London, built for Europe
The sixth-generation Micra was designed for European drivers and is the first Micra to be fully electric. Its exterior was designed at Nissan Design Europe in London, and it’s built at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France. It was developed with Renault and uses the AmpR Small electric platform.
Inside, NissanConnect with Google built-in includes route planning that can add charging stops. That takes some of the worry out of longer trips.
See the Micra at Barton Townley
Barton Townley has been trading for more than 85 years as a family business at the foot of the Lake District National Park. We’d love to show you the all-new Micra and talk through the practical side of electric driving: charging at home, real-world range, finance options and what to expect from ownership.
